RRLA News PagePlayoff Schedules July 9, 2010 The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame Newsletter May 23, 2010 The playoff schedule should be posted in the next 3 or 4 days. As in previous years the playoffs will be hosted by specific zones. Following is a table of where the playoffs will be held:
All playoffs will be modified double knockout as in previous years. All House and B league will complete playoff not later than June 30th. Rules for using alternate players: Players are only allowed to play for the Zone for which they are registered. Alternate Players (AP) will be allowed to bring a team roster up to the number of players the team registered for the regular season. Any coach caught sitting players in favour of call-ups will be reprimanded by the disciplinary board who will determine what punishment is warranted. Alternate Players must be from a lower league in the same age group (B to A) or from a younger age group. (Bantam to Midget etc.). Goaltenders will be an exception, providing no other goaltender is available, a goaltender from another team within the same zone and at the same age group and level can be used (i.e. Novice goalie from same zone can play for another novice team within that zone). Major Lacrosse (Intermediate, Junior and Senior) shall follow CLA rules for roster sizes and alternate players.
Junior Senior Schedule Methodology May 15, 2010 The balance of the Junior/Senior schedule is in it's final approval stages and should be available Monday May 17. The methodology is as follows; each teams plays 14 games, juniors will play each other twice (10 games) and each senior team once (3 games). Each junior team will also play one additional game (1 game) against another Junior team to bring the total games to 14. Senior teams will play each other 4 times (8 games) and each junior team once (6 games). Most games are on Thursday and Sunday, however, there are a number of Tuesday play dates due to the late start and the long weekends. Standings will be recorded and count for playoff berths for junior vs. junior and senior vs. senior only. Senior vs. junior results will be collected but will not have any relevance to the standings of the respective divisions. No Overtime May 10, 2010 CLA rules provide for overtime periods in the regular season in the event of a tie. The RRLA has not allocated the floor time to accommodate overtime. Effective immediately there will be no overtime periods played in the event of a tie. The game will remain a tie, there is overtime planned for in playoffs but it is sudden death. Junior Senior Start Times May 7th, 2010 Junior and Senior Games are allotted 30 minutes of warm-up time prior to game start. So if a game is listed at 7:00PM on the schedule, game start time will actually be 7:30. They're Baaaaack May 8, 2010 The Seniors that is! The Shamrocks senior team took to the floor for the first time in I don't know how many years taking on Ojibway in a game that saw the rust crumbling off some of these senior players. It was reminiscent of PLL days with the likes of Reinhardt, Benson, Michelchuk, Rodrigues, Borland, Hardy and Nix there were even some Falcons players mixed in with Szczepanski, Herold, Stewart and Kaspick between the pipes. A couple Gryphons were added in the form of Dang and Woznesenky to round out the crew. It was a melting pot of lacrosse players brought together by the absent (traveling in the Pacific Rim) Justin Price. The Ojibway (formerly Sagkeeng) team also had those familiar faces or should I say familiar deadly sidearm and underhand shots. The "rubbermen" Henry, Marty and Julien Guimond were in fine form, spinning off the checks and using their speed to fast break. Darryl Bruyere used his rocket shot to connect with a hat trick on the night, the 3 - 8's number 88 Ryan Bruyere and number 8 Steve Starr were on D with big woodies keeping the Rocks out of the zone. The first period saw a close contest as each team felt each other out and ended an end score of 2 - 1 in favour of Ojibway with goals from Garand and Settee; Couglin connected for the Shamrocks. After the ten minute break some of the more elder players were moving a bit slow, the old muscles tightening up a bit I'm sure. Three minutes into the 2nd period an undefined Ojibway player and Hardy got into a bit of fisticuffs near the Ojibway net. It was more of a rasslin match than a fight but at the time I couldn't understand why the Ojibway player left the game, could it be because he wasn't identified on the game sheet? While the official caught that paperwork error a minor faux pas saw both teams playing short when the 2 majors should have cancelled resulting in 5 a side. When it came to controlling possession, Ojibway had it hands down handling the the ball for most of the period. The score didn't reflect that possession dominance however, as the period was a 4 - 3 contest with the game score being 6 - 4 heading into the 3rd. Darryl Bruyere would record 2 of his 3 that period with Garand capping his second and Richards recording his single. Looks like the Shammies were going to share the goal getting duties with Herold, Dang and Hardy making the mesh jump in the second. The theme of the 3rd period was Ojibway on the score board, when both teams had their floaters hanging in each others offensive zone. This technique is deployed when the mind can't convince the legs to move. The period ended 5 - 2 for Ojibway, Settee potted 2 more to complete his hat trick, Darryl Bruyere got his third and Marty got on the scoreboard along with Louie Guimond. For the Shammies, Hardy got his second and after quite a few shots on the night Andy "still pretty speedy" Szczepanski got the last one for them with only 32 seconds remaining. All in all it was entertaining opening to the senior season, I am looking forward to watching more from the elders. Thanks for the entertainment boys! Or should I say Gentemen?

RRLA Executive for 2010 The RRLA held it's annual meeting on Saturday October 17th at 10:00 AM. Following is the executive board:
RRLA Annual General Meeting 09/30/2009 The RRLA will be holding it's annual general meeting on Saturday October 17th at 10:00 AM. The meeting will be held at Sport Manitoba 200 Main Street room 225. This year the following positions come up for re-election:
All players 18 and older, along with all officials, executive and all registered zone staff are eligible to vote at this meeting. There are a number of proposed changes to the Bylaws and Operating policies. Please come to the meeting and run for one of the positions The Season Has Ended!! 07/28/09 The RRLA would like to congratulate and thank all the participants, coaches, trainers, managers, volunteers, officials and parents for their participation this year. We played just over 500 lacrosse games this year. Tonight in Junior B the Gryphons and Falcons played the last league game of the season. Go to the Junior Playoff page to see the results! See you next year!

Season Schedules 04/25/2009 Schedules have now been loaded. The generation of the schedule is a monumental task. There are so many parameters that are input that it literally takes a week to complete. Late registrations and teams either being withdrawn or added creates rework and delays. We need more volunteers at the zone level to help organize the league to avoid delays in beginning the season. Please offer your assistance to your zones to help us offer a better program for your children. Midget / Intermediate League 04/21/2009 The Intermediate program only has 3 teams. We do not believe this will enable to program to succeed. We are going to merge the Intermediate teams into the Midget A program. This will make an 8 team league. The anomaly is that as Zone 4 and Zone 1 each have both a Midget A team and a Intermediate team with limited players. Therefore in order to facilitate augmenting the Intermediate teams with Midget A players, these two zones will not have games between there own Midget A and Intermediate squads. Peewee A League 04/21/2009 The Peewee A program only has 3 teams entered. The league must have at least 4 teams to run a viable program. The RRLA has decided to begin the Peewee season with a 3 team A league where each team will play 4 games. The B league will complete 6 games. We will then tier the B division and move one of more of the most successful teams to the A program to finish off the season. Sidewinders Take Home Silver 05/25/2008 The Bantam A Sidewinders brought home the Silver Medal from the Justin D Sproat Memorial Tournament held in Saskatoon from May 23rd through 25th. The Sidewinders ended round robin play in second for their pool and went on to upset the undefeated Banditos to earn the chance to compete for the Gold. In the final game the Sidewinders came up against the Saints who narrowly defeated them in round robin play. The final game was an exciting finish to the tournament with the Saints claiming gold with a 7 - 4 final result. The Sidewinders dominated the 3rd period trying to battle back back but the Saints goaltender was just too hot to allow the Gold to slip into foreign territory. The Sidewinders want to thank the organizers of the Justin D Sproat Memorial Tournament for their hospitality and the opportunity to compete in Saskatoon. This tournament was top notch in all respects! 05/31/2006 It is with profound
sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of James Leslie
Hunt at /Riverview Health Care Centre on Wednesday, May 31, 2006. Jim
was an avid supporter and volunteer in the /Lacrosse community. He
had coached his sons Kyle and Ryan as they progressed through the WMLA
league. Just prior to being diagnosed with his illness, Jim had begun the
process of the formation of the Vincent Massey High School Field Lacrosse
Team. Kyle along with his sister Tracy continued on to coach
and manage this team through this difficult time. The Sidewinders Lacrosse
Club was fortunate to have benefited from Jim's volunteerism over the
years and will miss his contribution. Our thoughts and prayers
are with Jim's family at this difficult time.

From April 23rd through July 7th we played an incredible 585 lacrosse games. Of these, 106 were playoffs games. One of our primary objectives this year was to conclude playoffs by June 30th for the non-A divisions. We accomplished this objective and further concluded the entire schedule by July 7th. In the last few years, we were playing as late at July 16th in all divisions so while the season may have appeared rushed, it was to meet these objectives. The WMLA would like to congratulate all the participants in the lacrosse program for their effort on the floor this season and extend our thanks to the countless volunteers who made the season happen. This could never happen here could it? Religious statues grace the entranceway to Sacred Heart Academy, an all-girls, private Catholic high school in central Connecticut, and along the pristine path to the 127-acre hilltop campus, small sanctuaries serve as havens for students and the nuns in residence to pause in quiet reflection. Down a long walkway from the main grounds is the academy's manicured softball field, set in a bowl surrounded by soaring maple and pine trees, a setting with an almost cathedral-like feel.
